TWLOHA Teams Up With Hawthorn Heights
Scott & I are very passionate about To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) because it is becoming something bigger, something hopeful. It’s the realization of what life can be when we commit to meeting a need. This week Jamie the founder of TWOLA had the chance to hang with the guys of Hawthorn Heights. Here’s his amazing story of how together they’re bringing healing to the hurting through a t-shirt. Read more
40 Day Fast: To Write Love On Her Arms
For the 40 Day Fast, I’m writing about the non-profit ministry called To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA). A strange name for a ministry if you’ve never heard of them before. I’ve tried to write this several times now, and it’s difficult to get across how much respect I have for Jamie and his ministry… For the love and compassion they’ve shown to Renee and others… For the healing they’ve brought. As a father of two daughters, I’m very encouraged that things like To Write Love On Her Arms exist, that they reach out and love.
TWLOHA is the story of Renee I encourage you to read that story. To think about the impact that one small group of people are having.
Here’s a video that explains it much better than I ever could. (Warning: they drop an F-bomb in this video, but it’s real, it’s the way things were… )
Now, you can see Renee describe life two years after Jamie, his friends, and God intervened in her life.
It’s amazing to see that, even though we stumble and fall on occasion, we frail humans still have the ability to bounce back and keep going. I mean, Jesus fell 3 times while carrying his cross. Sometimes even he needed a little help. Would you be Simon to Jesus? Would you be Jamie to Renee?
As human beings, it’s often hard to ask for help, and it’s often even harder to give that help to someone that obviously needs it. Think about this: If you see someone struggling, offer a hand. If you, yourself, are struggling, ask for help. We all need each other to get through life (Now I sound like a Sanctus Real song), so don’t be afraid to reach out and risk. This is something I struggle with as well. Constantly.
I’ll make an effort if you do.
Checking in with To Write Love On Her Arms
Scott and I feel a strong connection to the ministry To Write Love On Her Arms. They help girls who are stuck in the cycle of addiction, cutting and thoughts of suicide. Our main connection is due to the fact that we’re raising girls of our own, and if they ever needed help this ministry would be a resource they could turn to.
The other reason is that they’ve worked with a lot of the bands (Switchfoot, The Almost, Anberlin, Paramore, etc. ) we cover so that gets us more excited that they’re making a difference. Well, Jamie Tworkowski, founder of TWLOHA, sent us this e-mail over the weekend to share some new tour dates and a few new success stories….
Hey Guys.
How are you? How was your week?
Weird week for me. i’ve been sick. Rest of the team is busy as we’ve got 12 new folks showing up tomorrow, to spend their summer interning with TWLOHA. Michael and Jon are getting ready for two months of Warped Tour. Michael led the charge for us last summer, so he’s an old pro at this point…
Ministry Spotlight: To Write Love on Her Arms
To Write Love on Her Arms, (TWLOHA) is a non-profit organization that helps those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and thoughts of suicide find hope. They exist to encourage, inform, inspire and invest directly into treatment and recovery of those that need help.
Their mission is to inspire people to start talking about these problems, not ignore them. It started with a story about a girl named Renee, who struggles with addiction, depression, low self-esteem and, at the core of her being, just wanting to be loved. What started as one person reaching out to another as a way to help them has turned into a full blown ministry that helps people on a local and global level. Read more
