Sunday Reflection: Love of God…Hope Does Not Disappoint
Last week, we talked about the best reason of all to be thankful: God loves us unconditionally and will never abandon us. We also read that “…God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade.” – 2 Corinthians 2:14, The Message
But what if life doesn’t feel like a victory parade? What if we are trying to recover from one (or several) calamities, or we feel as though we’re rushing headlong toward a cliff and the brakes have failed? Recently, Ken (the brother of my heart) said “…hope makes us look at what we don’t have, and makes us face things that we don’t want to face. “ Right. So we cannot run away, but must see things realistically. Drat! I mean, honestly, doesn’t the idea of running away sometimes seem so wonderful? So, now what? Read more
Sunday Reflection: Love of God…Reasons To Be Thankful
For most of my life, I’ve lived in the United States. Wasn’t born here, but it has become my home, so it might be imagined that my writing of thanksgiving revolves around that annual celebration on the fourth Thursday of November. Not so. While there’s lots to be said for commemorating a trip across an ocean, safe landing, being welcomed rather than attacked, and much great food, there’s much more involved in the giving of thanks. Sunday Reflection: The Love Of God…Curve Balls Of Life
So, you have this great idea, you chart your course and plan carefully, considering all possible contingencies. Great! You plan and prepare, and do everything you can to get ready for this new venture. Excellent! As the clock is ticking, you look to those who are wiser than you, asking yourself the questions you know they’d ask. And you listen with gratitude, not just to their responses but to any other queries they may have, knowing they have your best interests at heart. With all systems “Go!” countdown has begun. Sunday Refelection: The Love Of God…Fear Not!
I’ve heard a lot of talk these many months, from both sides of the political fence, indicating people “feared” what would happen if the person they didn’t vote for was elected. Now, being concerned about changes and how life will be impacted is understandable. But fear? There’s no need of that!
This weeks video devotional from KJ-52, (posted on November 5th) is all about escalators and wasp nests and speaks very clearly about fear, how debilitating it is, and how wonderful it is to have someone we can turn to when we’re frightened. Read more
Sunday Reflection: The Love of God…Is There a Worst-Case Scenario?
So what happens when we’ve done everything we know of, think we’ve experienced all we can handle, but wait! there’s more? What do we do? What if following the path laid for us produces results far different from those expected?
What if we move forward with ministry plans, knowing we heard correctly, having had it confirmed many times over, yet the emotional and spiritual investment, the encouragement we bestow on fellow laborers, appears to build their ministries, never ours? Read more
Sunday Reflection: The Love of God…A Work in Progress
Recently my husband sent me a picture from work, one he’d captured on his phone. As a sheetmetal man in the neon sign industry, he often comes home with tales of what has to be done to turn a customer’s vision into reality. He admits there are times when a sign is being built and he’s hard pressed to believe that the weird, sometimes ugly, work in progress can ever become a beautiful sign: one the customer will like and which he can add to his portfolio. Sunday Reflection: Why Christian Marriage is Important
“Christian Marriage” – why not just say “marriage?” Because marriage these days has plural definitions and a wide range of moral direction. Christian marriage, on the other hand has a clear definition and clear direction.
Christian marriage is important to me because it forces me to be more like Christ. Yes – I mean “force” – because I must work through issues and cannot give up. It is by our Lord’s design that a man and a woman leave their parents and become one flesh. And it is by our Lord’s design that that same man and woman are so vastly different from each other. The differences are the source of arguments, difficulty and misunderstanding. In a word: struggle. Read more
Sunday Reflection: The Love of God…Doing My Part
From a very young age I suffered much at the hands of my parents, yet I clung to the good and endeavored to dismiss the rest, because I sensed they were incapable of being good parents. And, finally, 15 years ago I was able to forgive them both. Read more
Sunday Reflection: The Love Of God
Most days, no matter what I’m doing, I’m “chatting” with the Lord, thanking Him and praising Him for the many blessings in my life. Stuff like,
“Thank You for the long green light, Lord! That guy behind me was awfully close.”
“Thank You for that awesome song! Her lyrics always speak to my heart and my situation.”
“Thank You for the beautiful stars saying ‘Good night!’ as I kiss my husband out the door on his way to work!”
Another thing I do is ask God for insight about each morning’s Bible reading. Read more
