Tours Still Sell, Despite Economy

Despite inflation, rising gasoline prices and the continuing slide of record sales, concert tours from January to June grossed $1.05 billion in North America, the same as the midyear gross in 2007, according to a report from The New York Times. I was surprised that Bon Jovi topped the list with a gross of $56.3 million, but hey when you have Daughtry as your opening act it really isn’t that surprising. He was followed by Bruce Springsteen, with $40.8 million, and Van Halen, with $36.8 million. The top Christian tours were Casting Crowns at #54 with $6.3 million and Winter Jam tip toed in at #98 with $3.1 million.

Last week The New York Post was asking the same question and according to their research Madonna’s upcoming “Sticky & Sweet” tour has been overshadowed in music industry circles by the large number of tickets still available for a key stop in L.A. in November and the soft sales of her latest project “Hard Candy.” Which. I didn’t even know was out yet. Read more
