Indie Happenings
In the summer of festivals and heavy touring, it’s often difficult to catch up with many of the bands we cover on a weekly basis. So, this week we present a round-up of bands that we’ve covered in the past few months…
Our friends in Destination 7 are having a pretty incredible and busy summer. They just played at the famed Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood! They’ve also managed to play at Icthus and will be playing at Spirit West Coast at the end of July in Monterey. They’ve even managed to squeak in some radio airplay in the last few weeks as well. Eowyn moves into Top 20 with “Silent Screams”
One of the first indie bands that Scott ever covered in our Tuesday Indie Spotlight feature was Eowyn. Since then, she’s been blessed in many ways by God. Now, it looks like there’s more good news on the way, according to this e-mail she sent us…
Hey guys!
I just wanted to update you on my radio single, “Silent Screams”. It has been 10 weeks on the National Radio chart for Christian Rock Radio and this week moved to number 20 on the chart! I am so excited that this single has done well and SO thankful to all of you who have requested this single in your area and once again to the radio stations for playing it!!
Indie Spotlight: Verra Cruz

What do you get when you cross vintage guitar riffs (Think Hendrix or Zeppelin here), a growly vocal that pleads to be heard, songs that will make you think (a-la Cobain) and a give it all to His Glory? You get Verra Cruz. This British trio has a monster sound that can barely be contained. Which probably explains why they’ve been playing festivals all over Europe for the past few years.
The band, Mark James (Guitar/Vocals/Lapsteel), Jimmy Cook (Drums) and Henry Cross (Bass) has been cranking out tunes for over 10 years. Having garnered some pretty impressive press over the years, it seems that with the release of Innocence, they may be poised to transition from an obscure band into mainstream success. Winning a coveted spot on the Gibson stage at this year’s Download festival, Verra Cruz are about to get even more exposure in Great Brittan.
We had a chance to catch up with Jimmy, here’s how it went:
Video Friday: Richard Andrew Experiment “Fall Apart”
We’ve quickly become BIG fans of The Richard Andrews Experiment. Richard, Chris, Stephen and Tom weave breath-taking songs that you just can’t help listening to. You see, this whole band wouldn’t be who they are if it wasn’t for Richard deciding to give his life to Christ in a California State Prison in 1993. When he was released in January of 1994, he dove right in to a local church, prayer, and God’s word. About a year later he began writing original songs, and by 1996 he was taking the music to local churches, coffeehouses, and pretty much anywhere they would listen.
God reaches the lost and Richard knows all about His amazing grace. This is a video for their song “Falls Apart”.
Songwriter Contest for the film Henry Poole Is Here
Are you an aspiring singer/songwriter? Then our good friend Lori at biscuitpr wants you to know about how you could enter the Henry Pool Is Here Songwriter Contest. Here’s her e-mail with all the information and if you win let us know…
Hello StereoTruth.net!
The film Henry Poole is Here releases in August through Overture Films. This is a movie with some amazing themes of hope, faith, belief, miracles…much like the songs artists in our market craft.
Indie Spotlight: Destination 7
Destination 7 is a 6 piece band from Los Angeles, CA. D7 have integrated rock, blues, funk, soul, and classical influences into their music, while still creating a unique and fresh sound. With powerhouse vocals, stellar musicianship, catchy hooks, and nostalgic undertones, their 2007 release “Wait For the Sun” appeals to a wide demographic of people, both Christian and secular. Each song on the record is a testimony, and a glimpse into the life of lead singer Natasha Ponticelli; a girl who once called herself an “Atheist of Atheist’s”. Read more
Eowyn shares a new miracle
In March, we blogged about how Eowyn was on tour and they were having some serious transportation issues. A couple in California read their blog and felt that God wanted them to help. God told this couple He wanted to show Eowyn that He was a provider and that He wanted them to continue with the work He started. They then overnighted a $10,000 check to her. Well, according to this e-mail we just got from her, it looks like bus troubles continue, but God provided another miracle…
Hey guys!
I just wanted to say hello.
I’m just sitting on the bus watching “Indiana Jones” …one of the old ones, and I realized I hadn’t said hey in awhile. I hope you guys have been having a blessed week. Mine was full of some challenges for sure, but once again, God came through.
Indie Spotlight: Fun with indies
Hey everyone! Wow, what a great 3 day weekend. The good news: I’m fully relaxed and ready to hit it after three days of letting Robin Twitter her way around Spirit West Coast. There were some Indie happenings down in Del Mar over the weekend, of course. Our friends Richard Andrew Experiment placed 2nd in the Indie Talent Search - and got their shot on the C28 stage as well. Here’s some more awesome news from The Experiment…
The trip to Nashville for the finals only went to the 1st place winner (Trevor Davis). However, get this brother… they actually called me on Saturday night to say that even though we came in second, they wanted us on the MainStage! God is so amazing! I can hardly believe it myself! So here was the line up Sunday night: Richard Andrew Experiment, Aaron Shust, Barlow Girl, Kutless, Third Day. It was an awesome day brother.
Illia checks in
Lindsey, from Ilia, dropped us a line to let us know how things are going for them. Looks like the girls are going to be taking some time off the road and heading into the studio for some creative work. Then again, if I had their schedule this summer, I’d be looking to take a little breather before all those festivals too - all the way out to California! We’ll be looking forward to new songs soon.
Hire an Indie?!
I let slip in our spotlight post earlier that Logan Miller, the bass player for Delorean Gray, is now unemployed - through an unfortunate series of decisions by his previous employer. Employers note: attempting to transfer an employee that’s in an active, awesome band a thousand miles away, isn’t likely to end well. I’m just sayin’…
So, here’s you chance to hire him! If you, or someone you know may have something that would be a fit for Mr. Miller, let us know and we’ll pass the information along to him. This needs to be in the northern Kentucky/southern Ohio (Think Cincinnati, OH or Williamstown, KY, or someplace in between.)
His qualifications: Read more
