September 16, 2008 · Filed Under Artist News · Comment

We’ve been following the ministry and musical journey of Eowyn for the last few months, but it looks like God is calling her down a different road. With a heavy heart and the loving support of her Husband she sent us this e-mail to say thanks for the support these last 10 years and hello to the new journey God is calling her too. We’re sad for Eowyn, but will wait in anticipation and prayer that He shows her where to walk. Read more

  • Band forms in 1998 at Middle State University.
  • Band signs to Floodgate Records in 2002.
  • Band puts out two records.
  • Band tours country with The Myriad, Norma Jean, Switchfoot, Anathallo, As Cities Burn (to name a few) and sells thousands of records.

    Indie Spotlight: Sonflowerz

    August 19, 2008 · Filed Under Interview · Comment

With not one, but TWO singles (My Adoration and Edge Of My Seat) hovering near the top of the CRW Indie top 30 for the past few weeks now, I’d not be surprised if you were already familiar with Becca and Elissa Leander - AKA The Sonflowerz.

Grounded firmly in praise music, these ladies from Colorado Springs weave terrific songs and are comfortable writing ballads and catchy, bigger than life pop tunes - Think Delirious? meets Bethany Dillon. Read more

Indie News: Ilia rocks Lifest… TWICE!

    July 8, 2008 · Filed Under Independents · Comment

IliaHey, if you’re fortunate enough to be headed to Lifest this weekend, be sure to check out The Edge Main Stage at 3:45pm on Saturday and then, on The Pit Stage at 8:00pm as Ilia, the rockers from AK will be rocking the land of cheese hard and well.

In addition to the rockin’ at the festivals this summer, the ladies also have a very full schedule coming up that will keep them on the road steadily through September. Not bad considering just a few months ago they were sitting on a bus with Eowyn wondering if they’d be able to even get that tour off the ground. Now it appears they’re even going to be making a west coast run and maybe, just maybe even be near Sacramento….

    The economics of being indie…

    June 24, 2008 · Filed Under Independents · 4 Comments

We cover bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, that have successfully gone into self promotion, and the money they make is impressive. Do they still count as indies? I think not… When I think about the true indie artists we’ve covered here in our spotlight, I wonder if they’re going to be economically viable in the future.

I’m in California, so gas here is hovering around $4.50 a gallon right now. Diesel is right around $5.00 a gallon. If you’re driving a van that gets 10 miles per gallon, and gas is $4.50, it costs you $.045 to go 1 mile. Go on a 100 mile tip for a gig - 50 miles each way - and you’re talking $45.00 just to get there and back. Nevermind if you have to rent a PA or pay someone to help you load in and out… Almost half a C-note JUST TO GET THERE? Read more

    Indie Spotlight: Destination 7

June 3, 2008 · Filed Under Indie Spotlight: Tuesday · Comment

Destination 7 is a 6 piece band from Los Angeles, CA. D7 have integrated rock, blues, funk, soul, and classical influences into their music, while still creating a unique and fresh sound. With powerhouse vocals, stellar musicianship, catchy hooks, and nostalgic undertones, their 2007 release “Wait For the Sun” appeals to a wide demographic of people, both Christian and secular.
