Our new blog friend Nichole wanted to let us know about an artist who’s starting to make an impact in the music industry. His name is Tim Myers (yeah like me, you’ve probably never heard of him) but he was a member of the platinum selling mainstream band OneRepublic. In fact, Tim wrote their current chart topping hit song “Stop and Stare.” He left OneRepublic last year because he felt like God was leading him to pursue a solo career. Get to know more about Tim and his music. Read more

I’m so freaking excited….yesterday we got a message from Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. It looks like after 15 straight months of touring in support of their current project “Dreaming Out Loud” they will finally get a much needed break during Christmas. Then in February they’ll head back into the studio to work on the songs they’ve been writing the last few months. Enough of my rambling here’s what Ryan has to say about it. Read more

In May, I put OneRepublic and their lead singer Ryan Tedder in our Mainstream spotlight. I was fascinated to learn about his early years in music, going to a Christian High School in Colorado and why he left Oral Roberts University and moved to New York City. Well, today it seems like everything is falling into place and Ryan wants to bring you up to speed with this e-mail. Read more

I see him doing little things like this to open his fans eyes to a bigger purpose in this life. What do you see?

Mainstream Spotlight: OneRepublic

Since the summer of 2006, OneRepublic has usually been ranked as one of the top mainstream musical acts on MySpace. Today they have their single “Stop And Stare” climbing both the Top 40 chart and the Alternative chart. They were started by songwriter and record producer Ryan Tedder and his high school friend Zach Filkins in Colorado Springs. Joining with Tedder and Filkins are Drew Brown, Eddie Fisher, and Tim Myers, but everything for OneRepublic begins in the creative mind of Ryan.

Ryan was born in Tulsa, OK, where he was raised by an extended family of missionaries and pastors. He began learning to play the piano at the age of three via the suzuki method, whereby young children learn to play an instrument by ear rather than reading notes. He is also a self-taught vocalist and began honing his skills at the age of 12 by imitating his favorite artists, which ranged from The Beatles, Peter Gabriel, Stevie Wonder and Sting. Read more

OneRepublic lead singer takes a swipe at Christian artists

Jeremy Thiessen, the drummer for Downhere, tipped me off to an article from the Houston Chronicle that featured OneRepublic lead singer Ryan Tedder. Now, you may not know OneRepublic or Ryan Tedder by name, but you may know their hit songs “Apologize” and “Stop And Stare” because they’re playing on mainstream radio.

Ryan is a Christian who grew up in Tulsa, OK and was raised by an extended family of missionaries and pastors. Ryan was asked if how he was raised would impact his music. His answer is one that may surprise you, but one that I can relate to because I’ve worked on both sides of the radio. Read the article, then come back and read my opinion on Ryan’s thoughts, along with my experience being around both mainstream and Christian artists.
