Last night the Top 16 of American Idol Season 9 was chopped down to the Top 12. Let’s just say I was a little surprised to see two major singers go home this week. Not, just kids wanting to win a singing competition, but actual full blown singer who will be making music for years to come. Here’s what went down…
The Top 16 sang Michael Buble’s “I Haven’t Met You Yet”. If you missed it, then consider yourself lucky it was aweful. You could tell they were lip syncing to the whole thing and looking to hit their mark from a choreography standpoint. Why, why AI producers must you keep doing these silly songs?
Next week the Top 12 will sing songs from the Rolling Stones.
The girls were up first. Didi and Siobhan were told by Ryan that they made it to the Top 12. This left Paige and Katelyn up for elimination. Simon thought Paige had the most potential and America agreed sending Katelyn home in tears.
The guys were next which was a change usually they run through all the girls first then move onto the guys. Ryan asked Lee, Todrick, Tim and Casey to form a line. Casey and Tim found out they made it to the Top 12 next week. This left Todrick and Lee up for elimination. In a HUGE surprise to me Todrick was sent home while Casey moves onto the Top 12.
Season 8 AI contestants Scott MacIntyre and Matt Giraud took the stage to sing Billy Joel’s “Tell Her About It” on duel pianos. Let’s just say they could have started the show this way instead of the lame group song…
Ryan moved on with the eliminations by asking Crystal to stand before telling her she was safe for another week. Then he turned to Big Mike next to tell him he too is in the Top 12. Lacey was up next to find out she will be coming back next week. Then Ryan moved onto Aaron and he too will be back for another week, which is almost impossible to believe.
This left Alex and Andrew for the final guys spot in the Top 6. Ryan lets them know America voted and Andrew is moving on while it’s the end of the line for Alex. I would have preferred to see Alex next week over Aaron Kelly.
In an interesting twist this left Katie and Lilly fighting for the last girls spot. America got this vote totally wrong and decided that Lilly Scott wasn’t talented enough to make it into the Top 12. Really America? I promise you that two years from now you’ll be picking up Lilly’s new project, while Katie will be a long lost musical memory.
