Earlier this year I was really excited and couldn’t wait for The Fray’s new project to roll out. Once that project hit store shelves in February I immediately turned my attention to OneRepublic’s new project. Today I’m excited to share with you the news that they are wrapping up the work on their new still untitled project this week. They have 9 new songs penned and recorded- 4 of them already mixed and mastered. They are pushing through this process looking for one more epic song to round out the whole thing.
Lead singer Ryan Tedder dropped this blog post to let us all know why the settled on only 10 new songs, what the tempo will be like on this new project and who is his favorite new artist of 2009.
We decided artists are putting WAY too many songs on their albums these days- they think they’re giving “you”, the fan, a bargain or something- but really we think it’s just too much to digest….overweight albums with 20 bonus tracks and whatever. when really all u guys want is the best songs u can find……no filler…..just amazing songs that are real and u connect with. so whether singles or just album cuts we can promise there’s ZERO filler on this album- we hope it’ll be the soundtrack to your lives for the end of 2009 and ALL of 2010!!!!
The album’s title is being debated right now but will be decided in the next week- we have a photo shoot coming up as well as video, and artwork…all that fun stuff…As of now we’re using Autumn De Wilde to do the photo shoot- google her- her stuff is AMAZING!!!This album will have a ton more tempo and upbeat stuff than the last album- alot more edgier stuff as well….but fear not- it wouldn’t be a OneRepublic album without some moody melodic mid’s and of course we snuck in a ballad…. but we’re definitely not aiming to reproduce or chase album 1 or any of it’s singles.Hope u guys have peeped “come home” w/ sarah B on iTunes now- we recorded that in Manchester at Blueprint studios during our last UK tour last fall and we loved it so much- thought it wasn’t right that that song never saw the light of day or came out as a single- so we decided to just put it out as an “end of album” surprise….we’re not doing a huge push at radio- but if u love the song please feel free to request it at any station.We’ll be updating u guys very soon- hope your having a great summer!!PS- My favorite new artist of 2009 is a guy named Dan Black from the UK- i’ve been following him for about 2 yrs now and i think he is an eclectic pop mad scientist- his stuff is THE freshest stuff i’ve heard in ages from anyone- especially male solo artists which there seem to be very little of these days….check out “U+Me”, “Pump My Pumps”, “Yours” and “Symphonies”….I’m trying to bring him over to the US and make some noise- I think he could kill it over here- if u like the stuff let me know-Ya’ll be good now ya hear?R
