Sunday Reflection: Love Of God…In Honor of Fathers

fathersday09Next Sunday we have the opportunity of celebrating the fathers we’ve been given by God. How blessed am I to have three to be grateful for! My Birth Father, My Pseudo Dad and My Father-in-Law. But, the one I’m most proud to call Father is My Heavenly Father.

My Birth Father: Because of life with him, I have learned first hand what NOT to do with children. I’m pleased to say that he accepted Jesus’ invitation to a relationship before he died. That means, when I go Home I finally get to know the man God intended him to be!

My Pseudo Dad, or, SD: Since spelling correctly doesn’t rank high on this terrific man’s list of priorities and, since pseudo sounds like it starts with an “s”, it fits him well. For almost two decades I have been on the receiving end of SD’s tremendous love, as he continually models all the positive things the Bible says about fathers. I love him very, very much.

My Marriage Father, or (as Some Would Call Him), My Father-in-Law: Because of his influence and that of his lovely wife of 54 years (now with the Lord), I have the most fantastic husband! I’m also blessed by my marriage father’s open arms and heart, welcoming me into his large, loving, accepting family.

My Heavenly Father: Just as all of you, I too have the best, most encouraging Father ever. He watched me being knit together in my mother’s womb and by then had already planned how long I’m to be here before I go Home to be with Him (Psalm 139:13-16, New International Version). He tattooed my picture on the palm of His hand (Isaiah 49:15-16, The Amplified Bible). He listens to my conversations and writes down the minutes of those conversations in his book (Malachi 3:16, The Message). He gently corrects me when I need it (Hebrews 12:7, New King James). He has even numbered all the hairs on my head (Matthew 10:30, The New Living Translation)! How cool is that, to be reassured over and over that the God of all creation is so intimately involved in even the minutest of details of my life and yours?

Whether you are able to thank God for one, two, three, or (like me) four fathers, may this wonderful day bring joy to you and all of your loved ones.

all of Heaven’s best to you and yours,
Margret Boyd
