newsboyspetermichaelAfter landing in the #1 position in it’s first week of sales. It looks like the Newsboys new project “In The Hands Of God” is still going strong despite the line-up change. In fact, this week it held the #1 spot again according to the SoundScan Christian Albums chart.

This is their fourteenth studio release. The project, whose title track also recently topped the Christian AC radio chart, additionally claimed the #1 spots on iTunes’ Christian/Gospel Top Albums chart and #28 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. These makrs are the biggest ever for their record label Inpop Records’. IN fact, this is their first #1 record for them since releasing “Adoration” in 2003.

Jeff Frankenstein of the Newsboys had this to say…

“After 20 plus years of being a band, all we can really say is ‘thank-you’! We are truly blessed with wonderfully loyal fans.”

Inpop President Dale Bray adds

“This a great day for both the Newsboys and Inpop. Much credit and gratitude goes to our friends at EMI CMG, retail and radio for their continued support over the past years. It’s a remarkable effort and highlights the strength of the newsboys brand, music and ministry.”

Produced by Max Hsu (Superchick, tobyMac) along with the Newsboys’ Peter Furler and Jeff Frankenstein, “In The Hands of God” boasts the classic rock sound that has made their music legendary among Christian music fans for more than two decades. Featuring 10 hit songs, including “No Grave,” “The Way We Roll” and “Glorious,” the project does include current tour frontman Michael Tait on background vocals.

Now, I thought Peter was going to continue to sing on future Newsboys projects? According to Inpop this project will be the last one on which he will sing. It’s Peter’s autobiographical project and a tribute to God’s divine providence their long-running career. Michael and the boys recently wrapped their 35-city “Join The Tribe” tour.
