Sunday Reflection: Love of God…As Seen and Told By

bb-reflections-mattI wanted to write today about seeing ourselves through God’s eyes, and share passages of Scripture detailing the benefits of such a viewpoint.

That still needs to be explored because without knowing how we’re seen by the One who made us, we really aren’t able to fully be ourselves. We cannot survive the sadness, refuse to give in to bitterness after disappointments, or accomplish all we’re capable of. But first we need to see who God is, and look at Him clearly, learning of Him based upon what He says of Himself, rather than through the reflections handed to us by others.

Like taking a picture of my husband while we were vacationing in Bodega Bay. Without removing the “barrier” of the window reflection, what I was able to capture showed nothing of the love on his face or the sparkle in his eyes. Only when I said, “Look at this cool picture of Matt!” was anyone able to identify him—and smile.

So let’s look at the Lord first, remove the barriers of “he said, she said” by going to the source, the Word of God, and get to know Him as He explains Himself to us. Then, based upon that foundation, that knowledge of His expansive love, we will be able to be happy, healthy, and whole. And as prayed in an earlier century,

Every morning lean thine arms awhile
Upon the windowsill of Heaven
And gaze upon thy Lord.
Then, with the vision in thy heart,
Turn strong to meet thy day.

May 2009 be a year of discovery for us all: discovery of Him who loves us most, who knows us better than we know ourselves; and discovery of all we’re capable of once we realize we are fully, passionately, completely loved and accepted!

all of Heaven’s best to you and yours,

Margret Boyd
