Run Kid Run is having major success right now with their single “Freedom” from their new “Love At The Core” project. I’ve heard this song more than 20 times on the radio and every single time it stops me dead in my tracks. If you haven’t heard the song please go watch this video before you start reading our exclusive interview with lead singer David Josiah Curtis who tells us the meaning behind this amazing song, what tour they’re getting ready to head out on and what’s a “must have” on the road.
ST.net: Where are you and what are you doing today?
David: We are at home at the moment which for the majority of us is southern IL. Today was pretty chill just slept in and then went to some thrift stores with my girlfriend. good day.
ST.net: Who else makes up Run Kid Run?
David: david josiah – vox, guitar, neil matthew – guitar, bgvox, gregory paul – bass, good looks, matthew dwight – drums
ST.net: Whenever I hear the single “Freedom” from your current project “Love At The Core” it moves me to chills every time. The picture that the words paint are simply amazing, but it’s the piano that just pushes my mind over the edge as to how much I need God’s help to change my selfish ways. What’s the story behind this song?
David: i felt like god was giving me this picture that i really did want to portray i wasn’t sure how clear it was so thanks for saying that. the vision in a short way of saying… it is me in a prison like state dirty and broken down but the shackles aren’t on my wrist and ankles anymore but i have grabbed onto them and wrapped them around my arms and legs. Those chains representing the sin that has become bondage for me. I believe if you are a christian that on calvary we we’re already set free from that sin it’s just our selfishness or whatever it may be not taking christ hand and taking the first step towards freedom instead holding onto them and letting the sin drag us to that place. it’s just a cry for freedom that i know is rightfully mine.
ST.net: Many our of readers may not know your music and think you guys are a new band. I know that this is untrue, but can you bring us up to speed on how long you’ve been in the music game and who you’ve toured with in the past?
David: We have been playing music together for ten years now…quite a long time. The name of our first band was side walk slam we were on tooth and nail records and put out three records under that name before making the transition to rkr. Our first tour was with Ghoti hook and the dingees back in 01. since then we have toured with numerous bands lots of different tooth and nail bands huntingtons, hawk nelson, classic crime, tfk, change of pace etc. too many to name….
ST.net: Are you guys out on tour right now?
David: at home right now about to head out on the creation tour w/kutless, thousand foot krutch and about 6 other bands it’s going to be really big for us…..were looking forward to it. check our myspace for the dates.
ST.net: If you could have any artist on tour with you, Christian or mainstream, who would it be and why?
David: U2 because they are amazing wouldn’t really fit our style but it would be a real treat to watch them every night.
ST.net: What’s the one thing you “Must Have” on the road?
David: ipod
ST.net: What one artist or speaker has had the biggest impact on you and why?
David: i never really say this but my father is my favorite speaker to sit under…he a great teacher…and has been a great example to look up too on and off the pulpit.

David: no just the norm i guess
ST.net: Do you drink Coke or Pepsi?
David: neither sweet tea first then if a soda mr. pibb

David: dog all the way except my girlfriend has this cat that is pretty much amazing he’s an exception.
ST.net: Do you use myspace or facebook?
David: myspace
ST.net: Do you prefer to eat at Denny’s or Cracker Barrel?
David: cracker barrel
ST.net: Is it the journey or the destination that keeps you going?
David: i would go with journey if your talking long term because only god knows where this destination will lead us.
