Katy Perry’s Parents Speak Out About “I Kissed A Girl”

August 21, 2008 · Filed Under Artist News

Katy Perry may have the hit of the summer, but Katy Perry’s parents are anything but proud of their daughter’s success for the controversial “I Kissed a Girl” song. Worldnetdaily.com is reporting about how Katy’s parents feel about her new song and what they do when it’s played on the radio.

Her mother Mary Hudson said…

Katy knows how I feel. We are a very outspoken family and she knows how disappointed her father and I are. I can’t even listen to that song. The first time I heard it I was in total shock. When it comes on the radio I bow my head and pray.

Katy was raised in a very strict Christian household. She started performing in church at nine. She was a special child, she loved to sing and had an angelic voice. That is why this is all so disappointing and sad. I think she acts and says certain things to be provocative and to shock.

Katy recently told UK’s DigitalSpy…

I love pop music. I’ve been around kids that hate selling records and enjoy being the starving artist. But I want to play stadiums. I want to sell records. I want to be a pop girl! Everyone’s looking for me to be, ‘Well, I’m so ashamed of it and that’s why I kissed a girl!’ No way! I still have ‘Jesus’ tattooed on my wrist. And I still have faith and a foundation of my own.

Do you think this one song has changed Katy’s faith or love for the Lord? I don’t, but thanks to our good friend Lori we have a video where Katy address’ this article, but please be aware there is mature content.

Oh, when that song makes her so rich that she buys mum and dad a house, they’ll get over it.

I think the way she responded to this issue — without much grace or maturity — gives evidence to the rebellious nature of the song and the artist right now. But, it’s no reason to write the girl off completely. If she knows and has been taught truth then God won’t let her go until she comes back around to deal with it in the future. I think we can see that process starting to take place in Jessica Simpson’s life right now. I’m sure her parents are praying for her and wishing that other believers would join them in that prayer. Maybe we can all pray that her parents come to the point where they can let go of the situation and trust that God is working behind the scenes. I think sometimes parents have to come to a place where they have to take their hands off, close their mouths about some things and just trust that God will do what He does best — rescue us from ourselves.

Katy posted a video blog that addressed this in which she stated this interview DID NOT occur and it is misquotes. She also addresses the relationship with her family and how they are all doing fine. I don’t condone the song or the lyrics however, the interview in question is not valid.

Lori can you provide us with the video link so we can post it?

Hey Lori thanks for the video link we’ve added it to the bottom of this post. Be sure to check it out.

If her comment about having her “own foundation” was stated by her, then it shows that her foundation is not in Christ. You can have all the “godly” writings on your body and even try to sound “godly” which she isn’t, but Jesus said, that your “fruits” will show who you serve and that you can’t serve 2 masters!! He also says in 1 Cor. 6:19-20 that you were bought with a price and that your body is not your own, so glorify God in it. In John 15:13 says if you love the Lord you will lay your life down for Him as He had lived to die for yours. It also says if you love the Lord you will follow and do His commandments. John 15:9-10. In Revelation 3:15-16 the Word says that the Lord will VOMIT those out of His mouth who are lukewarm. When you have a relationship with the Lord you want to live your life as love story to and for HIM. Nobody else has ever given us what He has given to and for us, HIS very own LIFE, that we should become part of HIS family and fellowship with HIM. Paul had stated to LIVE for CHRIST is to DIE to the World. Jesus also said in Matt. 5:16 to shine His light before men so that HIS FATHER would be glorified. Let us hold faith to the truth that Jesus Christ preached and interceed for others to come to the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ to serve HIM and hold those who are going thruoug trials up in prayer that they would not loose hope, but remember that He is able to do more than what we could ever ask for.

    Rachel,
We (meaning Stereotruth.net) aren’t here to judge others. I know that I wouldn’t want to be judged by the things I did when I was 23 years old.

Since Katy’s so young, I’m going to cut her some slack, pray for her, and pray that she fulfills HIS plan for her.

This is classic behavior of someone raised in an overly strict, sheltered Christian home. As a parent of 3 kids, I believe it’s VITAL that we develop a Biblical worldview, instead of just training them to blindly follow rules.

    Amen to that, Jeff!

We are called to live in the world, not be sheltered from it.

“Do you think this one song has changed Katy’s faith or love for the Lord? I don’t…”

You must be joking… Has the author of this article ever heard the song in its entirety? If a song titled “I Kissed a Girl” doesn’t signify a break from a godly life, nothing does.

I too made poor choices in my life. Choices I know were not pleasing to God, but it didn’t change my love for Him. I just rebelled against Him and our relationship thinking I could do it on my own. But, it’s only because of His never ending love for me that allowed me to finally see I need Him every step of the way in this life. Maybe that’s why I relate to Katy so much because maybe, just maybe this is her time to rebel against everything her parents taught her about God. But, I still know that God loves her and I’m praying (instead of judging) that one day her faith in Him will bring her back into His arms of Grace. But, hey that’s just my opinion.
