Yahoo Music is reporting that America’s teens have spoken loudly and proudly to proclaim the Jonas Brothers #1. This weeks Billboard 200 shows their project “A Little Bit Longer”, opened with first week sales of 525,000 copies. That’s the highest first-week total by a teen-aged act since Britney Spears “Britney” project in 2001.
Their new project also sold more copies in its first week than their previous, “Jonas Brothers”, project sold in its first 16 weeks combined. Kevin, 20, Joe, 19 and Nick, 15 are also the second group to reach #1 that included two teenagers. New Kids On The Block hit #1 with “Hangin’ Tough” in September 1989 when two members-Joey McInytre and Jordan Knight, were still in their teens. (My wife was one of those teens in the late 80′s who couldn’t get enough of The New Kids and had the posters on her wall to prove it.)
Oh, but wait there are more records being set by Joe Jonas who has 17 song entries on the Hot Digital Songs, which ties the mark David Cook set 12 weeks ago, right after he was crowned this year’s American Idol. The tally counts 15 Jonas Brothers songs (10 from the new album, four from the previous album and one from Camp Rock), as well as a duet with Demi Lovato and a solo, both from the “Camp Rock” soundtrack.
