CD Review: Decemberadio “Satisfied”

August 26, 2008 · Filed Under Reviews

So I come in the the Stereotruth Headquarters the other day to find a shiny, new copy of Satisfied - Decemberadio’s sophomore effort - sitting on my desk. Now, don’t take any offense here, but Decemberadio was always one of those bands that I’d heard about, but never actually listened to.

I knew they were an up and coming band, just toured with Third Day and our friends in Sanctus Real, so I’ve definitely heard OF Decemberadio. Their music, however, escaped me.

Until now. Having listened to Satisfied, a few choice words come to mind to describe the album as a whole. I think, however, I’ll have to stick with “Sledgehammer” as my word of choice. This album hits you over the head like a ton of bricks and doesn’t let up until you’re well into the whole disc. By then, of course, you’re hooked and will just keep listening.

Better Man rolls out like a freight train, and Satisfy is such a classic Southern Rock song that you can’t help but wish for a pickup truck and warm summer night.

By the time they slow it down a bit with Believer and For Your Glory, you hardly even notice that you’ve been picking up speed and are suddenly doused with Gasoline and everything just catches fire all over again.

For Your Glory is the current and obvious radio hit on this disc. My personal favorite though, is Believer - Which means, of course, that we’ll never hear it on the radio - is a soulful, bluesy number that makes no apologies for a life filled with faith and grace.

Satisfied is a very well produced record. These guys show such polish and ability that it’s hard to believe this is only their second disc.

And since I’m more of a mainstream guy, I have to make an obvious comparison to a mainstream artist. In this case I’ll just point out the obvious that Josh often sounds more like Edwin McCain than Edwin does - Especially on Love Can and Find You Waiting - I say that, of course, with love.

Overall, Satisfied is one of the best discs I’ve heard this year.

You can get it on iTunes.
