Apple Finally Ready For iTunes Subscriptions?

August 27, 2008 · Filed Under Industry News

cnetnews.com sites tips coming to three different MAC sites, all saying the same thing — that an iTunes subscription service will be announced in September, and officially launched in October, that will cost about $11 a month. The new service would offer unlimited access to half of its iTunes Store for $129 a year, or $179 for an iTunes/Mobileme combo deal, in the U.S. only. Current Mobileme subscribers will only have to pay $100 for the subscription service.

Rumors of an iTunes subscription service are not new; There are reports dating back to 2005 that Apple was getting ready to introduce such a thing. CEO Steve Jobs has historically pooh-poohed the idea of rental music–and such services–but Jobs has also said he wasn’t crazy about video-playing iPods and Apple-designed mobile phones, either.
