American Idol Season 7 Top 10 finalist Kristy Lee Cook has inked a deal with…..drum roll please 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville (no really) for a twang-heavy album debut, with her first single, “15 Minutes of Shame,” releasing to Country radio on Aug. 11th. Arista Nashville is also home to Carrie Underwood, and her album is being produced by Brett James, who cowrote Underwood’s megahit “Jesus Take the Wheel.”

Signing up with Arista Nashville also marks a return to her roots, as the singer was signed to the same label as a countrified teen but parted ways with the company before getting the chance to record anything. I find it interesting that this little fact was kept quiet by American Idol producers. Do you think there was an advantage for David Cook, David Archuleta or even Kristy Lee since they had previous record label exposure or experience?

Here’s a look back at her American Idol audition, but if you knew up front that she signed a previous record deal would her talent blow you away as much?
