40 Day Fast: To Write Love On Her Arms

For the 40 Day Fast, I’m writing about the non-profit ministry called To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA).  A strange name for a ministry if you’ve never heard of them before. I’ve tried to write this several times now, and it’s difficult to get across how much respect I have for Jamie and his ministry… For the love and compassion they’ve shown to Renee and others… For the healing they’ve brought.  As a father of two daughters, I’m very encouraged that things like To Write Love On Her Arms exist, that they reach out and love.

TWLOHA is the story of Renee I encourage you to read that story. To think about the impact that one small group of people are having.

Here’s a video that explains it much better than I ever could. (Warning: they drop an F-bomb in this video, but it’s real, it’s the way things were… )

Now, you can see Renee describe life two years after Jamie, his friends, and God intervened in her life.

It’s amazing to see that, even though we stumble and fall on occasion, we frail humans still have the ability to bounce back and keep going. I mean, Jesus fell 3 times while carrying his cross. Sometimes even he needed a little help. Would you be Simon to Jesus?  Would you be Jamie to Renee?

As human beings, it’s often hard to ask for help, and it’s often even harder to give that help to someone that obviously needs it. Think about this: If you see someone struggling, offer a hand. If you, yourself, are struggling, ask for help. We all need each other to get through life (Now I sound like a Sanctus Real song), so don’t be afraid to reach out and risk. This is something I struggle with as well. Constantly.

I’ll make an effort if you do.

Thanks for talking about TWLOHA. It addresses a grittier side that most of us don’t like to look at, the fact that the people we are trying to reach and save are sometimes pretty dirty and messed up. But they can be saved, through God’s grace. Beautiful!

I’ll be praying for you today.

thanks for sharing. TWLOHA is an organization close to my daughter’s heart. In fact, she and her friends led a “semi-mini” protest at their school by writing LOVE down their arms. When it was explained to the administration, one was asked to introduce TWLOHA to the student body during chapel.
    Praying for you today.

    WAY TO GO!!
    I just found this group…

    so very needed!!

and a good reminder of what we are called to do…support and love…the broken and disheartened.

i bought the tote bag and buttons.
i have used the tote for groceries and had people ask…what is that?

  6. Thanks for posting those videos. I’d heard of TWLOHA but to actually hear from Renee was really powerful.

I’m reading up on a weeks worth of blogs because I was at Student Life Mission Camp last week and even though there was internet access I wanted to focus on what god was going to teach me and the students I was with. I’m very grateful for you all talking about TWLOHA. It’s a very much needed organization. I support it as much as I can. I recently went to the warped tour last Saturday in Miami and had 100 bracelets I had made that simply had the letters twloha on them and with beads of different colors.

It’s very much on my heart alot and I like the feeling of being in a community of hope and family.
