I know, I know, before you even get to reading, Sixpence None The Richer is no longer together as a band. Today you’ll still hear their songs on the 80’s, 90’s and today’s type of mainstream radio progra
ms. Plus, Leigh Nash released a solo project called “Blue on Blue” in 2006, and I think a lot of you may have missed it.
The name Sixpence None The Richer was inspired by a passage from C.S Lewis in his book “Mere Christianity”. Matt Slocum met vocalist Leigh Nash at a church retreat in the early 1990s. It wasn’t until their single “Kiss Me” came out in 1999 that they finally broke through to mainstream radio success. The song went on to be featured in the movie “She’s All That”. The band had a follow-up album ready to release, but their label at that time started to fall apart, leaving them in limbo for several years. Finally, the label folded and the next project, “Divine Discontent”, wasn’t released until October of 2002.
On February 26th, 2004 Matt Slocum announced that the group had disbanded. A few months later Matt started a new band, the Astronaut Pushers. Leigh Nash began working on a solo album titled “Blue on Blue” in the fall of 2005. Then in July of 2006 Nash’s single “My Idea of Heaven” was released. The album was released by Nettwerk Records under Nash’s own imprint. Here’s the song since most of Christian Radio skipped it all together and only a few mainstream stations played it.
In November of last year, Leigh and Matt met over coffee and positively discussed the reuniting of Sixpence. The band is currently in the process of tracking a new EP. In January of this year Leigh traveled down under to New Zealand to perform at the annual Parachute Music Festival. Performing on the main stage twice, she attracted crowds of over 30,000 who enjoyed her acoustic covers of Sixpence hits “Kiss Me” and “There She Goes”. I’m excited to hear their new sound and can’t wait for their new music to be back on the radio.
Every week we put fellow believers that are having success playing their music in mainstream media in this spotlight. Our goal behind this is to encourage them, inform you of who they are and then see how together we can introduce more people to Christ.

Dosent anyone else notice that Hayley Williams looks a lot like Leigh Nash? I almost mistook a picture of Leigh for a picture of Hayley, the only thing that made a difference was the hair length.
