Is positive, Christian music coming into it’s own?
From the inside, looking out, the Christian music scene has almost always been seen as vibrant and worthwhile. Many people over the years haven’t always thought so - and often for good reason. Karen, over at eztracks.com has written a really good article from someone in the mainstream’s point of view.
I’m not going to say that I agree with everything she says in her article, because for every Christian band that someone says is lame, I can easily point out a mainstream band that is more than a match for what our particular corner of the universe unleashes on the world. But she does make some valid points in regards to how the overall perception is improving.
There’s no doubt about it, the crossover appeal of a lot of the popular bands in the Positive arena is very high. I know when I see bands like Skillet, Switchfoot and Reliant K and Superchic[k] on the TV at the Gym I go to (Gold’s, if you must know) I get the point that there’s some definite crossover going on.
What’s next… David Crowder Band playing in The House of Blues… Oh, wait…
OY! It’s the Metal Head Roundup!

Dropping a little further south on the east coast, and you’ll run into Advent in the North Carolina area. They’ve got a new video up called Vices like Vipers is up on MySpace. Their new disc, Remove the Earth, drops on Feb. 12th. Oh, and right now, if you pre-order through NewburyComics.com, you’ll get an autographed booklet along with the disc.- Of course, no roundup of the metal scene would be complete without talking about Demon Hunter. Next Tuesday (Feb 5th - Everyone vote!) they’ll be doing a live interview on cagerattle.com. So be sure to check that out.
Re-cap of American Idol Miami Auditions
Wow did anybody else notice Randy’s shoes? They were like bright baeming red stop lights on a dark night. I mean ruby red, leather flat tops that distracted me so much I missed the first 20 minutes of last nights Miami, FL auditions. Well I thought Omaha had bad singers, but two days, a total of 24 hours of auditions and only 17 golden tickets. Come on Miami what’s up are you to busy laying on the beach to work on your vocal skills?
Switchfoot frontman hosts his own radio show
I just found out that Switchfoot’s frontman Jon Foreman will host a special edition of Spiritrocks on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Spirit music channel this Saturday, starting at midnight (ET).
He’ll share stories behind his new solo project and play songs from Switchfoot as well as other artists he admires. I wonder who will make the cut on Jon’s show. Following his guest host spot, he’ll then sit down for an exclusive interview and a special eight-song acoustic performance.

Casting Crowns The Altar and The Door Spring Tour
The spring leg of Casting Crowns The Altar and the Door Tour, with special guest Leeland and John Waller kicks off tomorrow in Oklahoma City, OK. In the fall this same tour hit 36 cities with 20 of them selling out and connecting them with over 200,000 fans. If you want to go then get on-line and get your tickets today.
Did you know that before every show they pray for the people coming to that nights show. I don’t mean they stand on the stage in front of an empty auditorium and give a blanket prayer for all of the people that will enter the building either. They personally walk up and down each row praying over every individual seat in the entire arena. They’re not a band out to just rock the house. They are a band committed to His calling on their lives and truley care about changing the lives of those coming to their show.
Re-cap American Idol Omaha Auditions
Last week I said Omaha, NE would bring out the Garth Brooks & Carrie Underwood wanna be’s, but I didn’t hear one good country singer. I was blown away by all of the R&B and Rock singers that took the stage. The Idol hopefulls only had one day of auditions to impress the Idol judges. When the day was over only 19 lucky singers will be making their way onto Hollywood.
During last night’s show my wife pointed out that Paula never say’s “no” to anyone. I never really noticed this fact. What I do know about Paula is that she has no problem yelling “Touchdown” or sharing a really loud hiccup with America. Read the rest of my re-cap… Read more
Paul Wright - out on the road
You know, Rodney is usually the big Paul Wright fan around StereoTruth HQ, but I’ve been listening more and more and I’m really digging the vibe of his music. If you haven’t given Paul a spin yet, then I highly recommend either his solo stuff, or the work he’s been doing with ROOTDOWN, his latest project. You can, by the way, get the ROOTDOWN EP for free, if you’re so inclined. Dates and a video, after the break…
QTrax: What’s so hard about music?
What a week for the guys at QTrax. They went from a “promising” outlook to quasi-laughing stocks of the music business in one week.
QTrax Ingredients:
Take 1 part Songbird, an open source, Mozilla-based media player and 1 part adware along with a generous measure of DRM. Mix it all together, and instead of the scrumptious delight you get when you mix, say, chocolate and peanut butter, you wind up with something much more sour, much less satisfying and something that you probably won’t want to sample again.
